★Barber surgeons are found in most towns and, as well as trimming and cutting beards and hair, are also known for surgical procedures. The most common of these is bloodletting, a procedure involving leeches which is believed to be essential for good health. Many of the procedures carried out by the barber surgeon relate to violence, such as tending wounds caused by swords, knives, arrows, catapults, burning oil, and stray dragons. Because the use of anaesthetics is restricted to those who can pay for it, most people have to suffer the pain of an operation with only a plank of wood to bite on or by drinking large quantities of spirits to dull the senses.
★Diplomats are regarded as the personal representatives of their monarch (rather than of the whole country) and their rank entitles them to meet personally with the head of state of the host country.  Diplomats are entrusted with extensive powers to pursue the interests of promoting trade and security, maintaining access to resources, facilitating cultural ties, and protecting the lives of their citizens. And they get invited to all the cool kings' parties.
★The Throne Room is the main building of the royal palace.  This multifunctional area is used for receiving guests and is the place where the household dines together, including the monarch, their attendants, and at least some of the servants.
★The Cathedral of Jacob is an imposing structure built to inspire awe and fear. Its hallowed halls often resonate with the sound of firebrand sermons and voices lifted up in praise of The Watcher.
★Master Merchants controll the trade in town. The Merchant guild regulates prices, quality, weights and measures, and business practices. Markets are noisy, raucous affairs. Merchants have to "cry their wares" as their only means of advertising, and some even have to be fined for forcibly grabbing hold of passers-by in their enthusiasm to make a sale.
★The modern day Peteran church believes that all Sims have an equal connection with the Watcher and that no Sim is a manifestation of the Watcher himself.
★The position of the court jester is very complicated. On the surface, they might be taken as a mere buffoon, but jesters also have to walk a fine line politically, as they have no official place in the ranks of the court. This means that while jesters can be more free with their opinions, since their words could be considered jokes, they also have to be careful about overstepping their boundaries, since they could be punished by the monarch.
★Espionage is one of the oldest political and military arts. The rise of the great civilizations begat institutions and persons devoted to the security and preservation of the ruling regimes. Spys collect, analyze, and disseminate critical and strategic information. Their methods, however, are widely diverse.
★The Smithy is the home and workshop of the blacksmith where arms and armaments are created.  Both the Forge and Anvil can be found here.
★The favorite adult recreation of the villagers is undoubtedly drinking. Both men and women gather in the tavern where they pass the evening despite the accidents, quarrels, and acts of violence sometimes following a session of drinking.  Oftentimes, a great Bard is present to enlighten and entertain the common folk. A Bard is a professional poet and singer whose occupation it is to compose and sing verses in honor of the heroic achievements of royalty and brave men.
★It is with great secrecy that knights receive weapons training.  Few possess the knowledge and skill to be considered a master worthy of training others.  To increase security, most instruction is passed down orally with only a few manuals produced for a knight to review. As a knight becomes more proficient with their sword or other weapons, they also develop a greater sense of distance and timing that sets them apart from their untrained contemporaries.
★A Wizard uses powers of observation and deals with forces mysterious and/or unsavory to others in order to produce results. A wizard is highly educated and might specialize in alchemy, mathematics, astrology, obscure knowledge, dark spirits, or in foreseeing the future.  They apply themselves over hot crucibles, pouring over scrolls, tomes, tablets, and tracts. They bend things to their will.
